Senator Randall Terry?

Thursday, May 26, 2005

Randall Terry
When his radio program used to be broadcast in this area, Randall terry was my favorite hatemonger. He was on at the same time as Rush Limbaugh and I even gave up listening to Rush for him.

Since he went off the air here, I hadn't heard much about him until the Terri Schiavo case came up. I somehow missed the news that he divorced his wife and married his secretary.

Now that he's back in the limelight, it seems Randall Terry is considering running for the office of Florida State Senator.

Well, why not? If Pat Robertson can run for President, why can't Randall Terry run for Senator? All he needs is money. "To defeat Jim King I will need momentum, man-power, and money," Randall has said. "Over the next three weeks I will test the waters. If I can raise $15,000 in contributions, I will know that we can raise the money needed to win this race."

I do remember one news story about Randall Terry from about a year or so ago. That was when his son Jamiel came out publicly as gay. Make that his adopted son Jamiel, as he always went to great pains to point out in every interview I read.

Indeed, the animosity Randall displayed for his own son was impressive, even for a hatemonger. He claimed Jamiel was prostituting his name for money. He publicly paraded his sons faults in article after article. He said his son didn't even have a job and refused to get one.

Interestingly, Jamiel himself, in a Beliefnet article around the same time, stated that the reason he didn't accept his father's offer to pay for him to enter a live-in ex-gay program was, "I was a manager where I was working and it was the Christmas season."

Yet Randall continued to publish his son's money troubles claiming Jamiel was just the latest homosexual trophy that had the guts to come out. In a WorldNetDaily article, Randall said, "If my son is their latest hero, we should wonder how many more of their homosexual leaders and trophies that they present as model citizens have lives that are this unraveled."

In other words, "Look at my son, the deabeat!" and, by implication, all others who come out.

Sounds like Randall Terry will make a wonderful politician.
