July 4th, I headed down to my new backyard, the Newport Riverfront. There weren't many birds to see. Most of the regulars had been scared off by all the racket. The park was in the third day of Newport's annual Motorcycle Rally. To top it off, at 10:00PM the fireworks were scheduled to be fired off from one of the bridges between Newport and Cincinnati. Boats were everywhere and folks were already lining both sides of the river to get a good view of the show.

Of course, I was there to see the show, too. I wound up with one of the best seats in the house. I was sitting on a rock right at the edge of the river beneath the bridge they were shooting the fireworks from. I didn't plan it that way. I had thought they were going to shoot them off from a barge like they do for Labor Day. It was just a convenient place to sit and wait for the barge, which never showed up.

It was the perfect spot to watch the fireworks. From my vantage point, they filled the entire sky. Not so great for taking pictures. I couldn't always fit the fireworks into the frame, even with my widest angle lens. Then there was that blasted bridge inserting itself into most of the photos.

But I gotta admit, some of the reflections of the fireworks on the bridge do look kind of cool...
